Marathon Petroleum Company LLC’s Garyville Refinery recently announced its annual contribution to the St. John United Way. Employees raised a total of $131,038 in employee pledges, far surpassing this year’s goal of $100,000. With this contribution, the LRD continues to break record after record in employee pledges. Another LRD record was shattered this year! 82.40% of Marathon’s LRD workforce made a contribution to the United Way in this year’s campaign! In addition, MPC will contribute $81,249 as a corporate donation made to the United Way on behalf of Marathon Petroleum and its Garyville employees. A check in the amount of $239,974 representing the LRD’s total contribution will be presented to Dean Torres, United Way Executive Director for St. John Parish.
On November 11th, 12th and 13th, 2008, the United Way Committee held its annual United Way Lunch. At total of 4,322 Shrimp Etouffee lunches were prepared by Poncho Roussel and crew and served by our volunteers raising $25,932! Thanks to all who volunteered to help cook, serve and pack the lunches for distribution. A special thank you goes out to the GME contractors who supported this effort.
Kick-off United Way Meetings were held from October 27, 2008 through November 3, 2008 for all LRD employees. Presentations were made to employees that included information about this year’s United Way Campaign. Volunteers from United Way Agencies also made short presentations. A total of 562 employees attended at least one of the Kick-off Meetings! Employees also had the opportunity to register for various raffles which yielded an additional $1,745 to the campaign!
In addition, the refinery was instrumental in planning and organizing the 10th annual St. John United Way Golf Classic. Participants in this event raised approximately $70,000 for the St. John United Way.
